Building Healthy and Equitable Cities

Join the SFU Research and Action for Healthy Cities (REACH-Cities) team, Project Lead Dr. Meghan Winters and Research Manager Aman Chandi, as they share an overview of their work supporting city staff across Metro Vancouver in implementing and embedding equity considerations into their practices. They will also highlight their community-focused projects in Surrey, including collaborations with Surrey Local Immigration Partnership (LIP), the Surrey Newcomer Youth Council, and DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society. About the Speakers: Dr. Meghan Winters is an epidemiologist interested in the link between health, transportation, and city design. She received her Ph.D. in 2011 from the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She completed a brief post-doctoral fellowship at the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility at Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, studying on older adults' mobility and the built environment. Dr. Winters joined the Faculty of Health Sciences as an Assistant Professor in July 2011. Aman Chandi (M.Urb) is an urbanist and community advocate based in Newton-Surrey and South Vancouver. Her toolkit includes social planning, project management, strategic communication, knowledge mobilization, visual thinking, and facilitation. At her core, she is a connector and a creative who is passionate about shaping caring cities that truly work for people. Event Format This is a hybrid event. In-person attendees are welcome to bring their lunch and eat while listening to the presentation. The event will take place in SRYC Room 5100.
